Dear Friends,

This month will be a decisive one for Freedom worldwide. As freedom fighters are jailed all over the world and authoritarian governments are cracking down on democracy, we must stand united. As Israel is illegally evicting more Palestinian families and committing crimes against humanity of apartheid & persecution, we must respond with one voice.

In addition, the G7 is happening in only one month. There and then, world leaders will be able to decide to unite to protect democracy or to continue to deal with massive rights violations in an isolated manner.

At NOW!, we have been working incredibly hard in pushing world leaders to create a League of Democracies to protect freedom fighters, hold one another accountable and innovate democracy, and we are not alone anymore.

One month ahead of the G7 Summit, over 20 pro-democracy leaders from authoritarian countries backed our demand to create a League of Democracies, including Interim President of Venezuela Juan Guaido and exiled Hong Kong former lawmaker Ted Hui.

From Venezuela 🇻🇪, Syria 🇸🇾, Cameroon 🇨🇲, Myanmar 🇲🇲, China 🇨🇳, to Hong Kong 🇭🇰, they are calling world leaders to unite for freedoms!

“Creating this League will not be easy, but it is necessary. Those who love freedom and democracy, and do not want to see the dark shadow of authoritarianism spreading around the world, must stand together”. They were joined by Venezuela’s Interim President Juan Guaidó who stated "Supporters of freedom and equal rights have a duty and a commitment to encourage and support any initiative that promotes the values of democracy."

A couple of weeks ago, we launched a crowdfunding effort to support our work for democracy. Thanks to the support of so many, we've overachieved our crowdfunding goal and raised $26,683! This is huge - we still can’t believe it!

We will be able to:

  • Keep on pushing all major democracies to unite and form a League of Democracies to protect rights and freedom fighters, hold one another accountable and share best practices to innovate democracy,
  • Support our members across the world that are organizing protests,
  • Rump up our advocacy work and host international hackathons for democracy,
  • Continue to keep the machine running!

Yes, we have a lot of work ahead. But NOW! supporters just made it a little easier for us to keep on pushing for democracy and freedoms. We promise to give it all we have. Thank you!
