Unity Day Recap 🌏 | Let's talk about global taxes!

On September 2nd, 2023, we held Unity Days online and offline, celebrating what it means to come together and what it could mean for the world.

💰 This month, we discussed the need to democratize wealth: wealth must benefit the many in society. We emphasised that multi-nationals must pay their fair share. There is no possible justification for some of the richest companies in the world to dodge their fiscal responsibility and for other smaller companies to continue to do what’s right. More than $500bln are lost every year in cross-border tax avoidance. And we can solve this together while directly benefiting our communities.

Online, 🎙️  John Barry (Professor of Green Political Economy) and Tommaso Faccio (Head of Secretariat of the Independent Commission for the Reform of International Corporate Taxation) joined our co-founder Colombe Cahen-Salvador for a panel to explore one of the insanities of today’s world: the fact that we don’t have a global tax system in place to ensure that multinationals pay their taxes.

As Tommaso Faccio mentioned, “a different world is possible: there was a time when corporate tax rate was 40%, and now it’s around 20%. It does not have to be this way.”

Participants then worked together to find solutions to the issue and comment on the panel.

Similar events also took place in Nairobi 🇰🇪, Lisbon 🇵🇹, Delhi 🇮🇳  & Florence 🇮🇹. See the pictures below
