Stop Mass Drownings in the Mediterranean. Don't Look Away.

Dear Commissioner Von Der Leyen, dear Presidents and Vice Presidents of European countries,

You have blood on your hands. 74 people died at sea trying to reach Europe, trying to reach a safe haven. Instead of providing assistance, you let people die. Over and over again. Since 2015 more than 15,000 migrants escaping unimaginable horrors have drowned in the attempt of reaching Europe.

Since 2015, the death toll has surpassed disasters such as Hurricane Maria, the Nepal Earthquake, and the Sumatra Earthquake. Combined.

Since 2015, the European Union and its member states have pledged to take decisive actions to ensure the protection of human lives. Since 2015, the European Union and its member states have done close to nothing to save lives, often taking actions endangering further those risking everything for safety.

We, the signatories of this letter, say no more. We demand that the leaders of the European Union and its member states act to ensure that no such tragedy ever happens again. Among the many needed measures, we demand a fair and human migration system, safe migration routes, and search and rescue operations!

Enough is Enough.

People of the world: add your name to this open letter to demand that governments #DontLookAway.
