These days the world is not an easy place, but never before the need for a global, political front to counter dictators and wanna-be autocrats was so clear. So onward we go, trying to bring a bit of hope in the face of a US-led crackdown on the democratic and equitable international order we dream of.

First and foremost, let us remind you of the massive conference we are organizing to try to imagine a new coalition to protect freedom and democracy worldwide. On March 15th, 2025, Milan becomes the epicentre of the global fight for freedom! Join activists, policymakers, and thought leaders at the Freedom Marathon, a one-day event by the Global Democracy Coalition & Atlas to shape the future of global pro-democracy action.

💡 Kenneth Roth (Princeton University) on the complex contest between autocracy and democracy.
💡 Carine Kanimba (World Liberty Congress), George Katrougalos (UN Independent Expert), Virginia Fiume (Fellow at European University Institute) & Colombe Cahen-Salvador (Atlas) on breaking down how we build a new international order for freedom.
💡 Bernard Dika (Spokesperson, President Regione Toscana) on tearing down barriers for young activists.
💡 Brando Benifei (MEP) & Andrea Venzon (Atlas) on what Italy can do for global freedoms.
This is more than a conference – it’s a call to action. Can we build a coalition that actually stands for democracy? That fights dictatorships without hypocrisy? That puts values over politics?

If you want to participate in this vote, and in general contribute to our work, please become a paying member or a volunteer at this link ahead of the vote!
Every quarter, the members of Atlas have the chance to shape the political vision of our nascent global party.
The first vote of this kind took place last year during our Global Summit, where the policies behind our Survival Bill were approved. It consists of twenty policies addressing six threats to our collective survival: Save Our Planet, End Poverty, Avert the Next Pandemic, Control Artificial Intelligence, Stop Wars, Resist Dictatorships, and Rebuild the United Nations as a cross-cutting solution.
On March 15th & 16th, you’ll be able to vote on two additional groundbreaking policies on how to Control Artificial Intelligence and Rebuild the United Nations!
This means,
- February 28th: you can expect to receive the policies
- March 5th 12 pm GMT: Q&A session on the policies for the whole membership
- March 9th 11 pm GMT: Deadline to submit amendments
- March 12th, 11 pm GMT: Deadline to submit revised amendments (Members who submitted amendments by 9 March will receive amendments submitted by others and can, if they want, negotiate with each other to combine similar amendments and resubmit them by 12 March)
- March 15th: Electronic vote begins
- March 16th: Hybrid global policy session at General Assembly. Electronic vote ends

OUR RUN FOR THE UNITED NATIONS
And here is a little update from Colombe’s work to become the UN’s next Secretary-General:
“After a week in the US, I left with something unexpected: hope. I know, it’s not what you expected to hear considering Trump is looming in the background. But it’s true. I just came back from a few days at Boston University where I gave a lecture on “How to rebuild the United Nations to confront the climate crisis”, met with students and heard many of them talk about how, considering the state of the world, they are rethinking their entire future careers, choosing to do good rather than just chasing money.
After that, I headed to New York to meet with ambassadors to the UN about campaigns to ensure this organisation finally stops the wars and survival threats devastating millions of lives. And for the first time ever, I returned from a week filled with UN-focused activities with hope”

The sixty-second sessions of the Subsidiary Body for Scientific and Technological Advice and the Subsidiary Body for Implementation (SB 62) of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change will be held from 16 – 26 June 2025 at the World Conference Center Bonn (WCCB) in Bonn, Germany. Atlas, as an admitted NGO to the works of the UNCCC, can register observers for the works. Are you interested in being an Atlas rep in this process? Can you finance your trip to Bonn?
