CHINA'S CRACKDOWN IN HONG KONG IS INTENSIFYING, DON'T TURN AWAY
It is with a heavy heart that we have learned that Joshua Wong, the pro-democracy activist who supported the launch of our Wave of Freedom campaign, has been incarcerated in Hong Kong for organizing pro-democracy protests. He is risking to be sentenced to years in prison. Not only is this an infringement upon fundamental rights, but it shows that powerful authoritarian regimes can blatantly disregard international agreements, like the one where China committed to preserve Hong Kong’s freedoms and special status. HOW DID TAIWAN SUCCESSFULLY DEAL WITH COVID-19?
Taiwan is a world-class example of how to deal with pandemics. In just a few months, the island state got COVID-19 under control and brought life on its shores back to normality. However, because of legacy and current geopolitical tensions with China, Taiwan is not part of the World Health Organization.
Every week, NOW! members gather in a community chat to get to know each other better, strengthen our global community, and exchange on the best ways to change the world. This week, Aurora, a member driving our freedom campaign in Taiwan, will tell us more about the history of Taiwan, the way the country contained COVID-19, and why we are all missing an opportunity to learn from the best. This is Thursday at 2 pm London Time (9 am New York, 3 pm Paris, 10 pm Taipei time)!
