Newsletter - August 16th, 2021

One month since the inception of Atlas, it's more evident than ever that pushing for the creation of a global political movement 🌎 is key for our future.

Last week's report from the IPCC confirmed what most governments have tried to ignore for too many years: the climate crisis is hitting us - hard - and it won't stop. From 49° Celsius recorded in Europe to floods across Asia, people worldwide feel this reality on their own skin. Atlas' work focused on the awareness that in 5, 10, and 50 years from now, our society must be different and deal with this crisis, or there will be no society at all.

From climate to the economy, from democracy to health, Atlas unites people worldwide to lead this change. If you want to be part of this revolution🚀, click below:

Please read below important updates about our movement and ways to impact change!

NATO: YOU MUST ENSURE THAT AFGHAN ACTIVISTS HAVE A #TICKETTOSAFETY ✈️

When we started drafting this newsletter on Friday, we could not imagine that the Taliban would be parading across the streets of Kabul a few hours later.

Amid the chaos, countries involved in Afghanistan are trying to get their staff and nationals out of the country. Some, like the US, put in place a priority visa. But many don't qualify. Activists, women's rights advocates, journalists, politicians all put themselves on the line, and their lives are now at risk. Please, help us push NATO to ensure that those most at risk - such as women's rights activists - are evacuated from Afghanistan.

A FREEDOM 🔥 EVENT UNITING LEADERS FROM VENEZUELA TO HONG KONG: CAN YOU MISS IT 😮 ?

On September 15th, on the International Day of Democracy, President Guaidò of Venezuela, Ted Hui of Hong Kong, and Wai Wai Nu of Myanmar will be meeting to discuss how the democratic world can unite and stand against authoritarian regimes ✊. They will do so with the Atlas flag, flying high over our Freedom Marathon, a 4-day event we are hosting to design what we believe is the only possible future for democracy to survive: the Union for Democracy. The UD will be an international organization tasked with protecting freedom fighters 🆘, keeping democracies accountable🗳️, and innovating democracy 📱, and our movement is committed to getting off the ground very soon.

This is why activists, politicians, and artists from all over the world will join our Freedom Marathon, and - surprise surprise - they will not be the only ones with a say in this. YOU will have a chance to interact with them, participate in our workshops, and help us come up with what we hope can change the world forever. So,

📌 Wherever you are in the world, please join our digital workshops on September 15th, 16th, and 17th to contribute to this effort by clicking on this link.

📌 If you are in London, please join us in person at the Tabernacle in Notting Hill for a day-long celebration of democracy, with impressive speeches and artistic performances. Tickets 🎫 available here.

In addition, as a member of Atlas, you are invited to a 👩‍👩‍👧‍👧 community day in London on September 19th with our Founders and Team Leaders: click here to RSVP!

WHERE ARE WE HEADING NEXT?  🇦🇺🇨🇴🇩🇪🇹🇼🇬🇧

Atlas has worked to open chapters in Australia, Colombia, Germany, Taiwan, and the United Kingdom this week only! This adds to the existing list of teams that our Community has already sprung, bringing the number to around 20 national chapters already.

Aside from being quite impressive, why is this important?

Because the more we grow ☝️, the more we bring diverse points of view and perspectives into our movement 🤝, the more we get ready to shape tomorrow ✌️. Only a truly global movement can lead society on a better path, and this is our goal.

JOIN OUR COMMUNITY CHAT: LET’S TALK ABOUT CHILD MARRIAGE IN INDONESIA

Every week, an Atlas member leads a conversation on a topic close to their heart.

Did you know that according to the 🇺🇳 UN statistics in 2018, 1 of 9 girls aged 20-24 in Indonesia was married before reaching age 18? Child marriage is a form of violence against children. Join our community chat next Thursday, on August 19, and hear from Rey, our member from Indonesia.

Date: August 19, 2021

Time: 3 pm UK time

MEET OUR TEAM: BELEN, ECUADOR & MEDIA RELATIONS 🗞️ TEAM LEADER

👋 Belen, can you tell us a bit about you? My name is Belén Estrella and I was born in Quito - Ecuador. I am part of Atlas because I am convinced that together we can change the world and our countries. My studies and multicultural family have taken me to 6 countries and 3 continents. Along this path, I have learned that anything is possible when we work together.

💬 What would you like to tell the world? The greatest challenges of our time - from climate change to the COVID 19 pandemic - transcend borders, skin color, or social realities, which is why Atlas is necessary today more than ever so that together we can build a free, fair, and equitable future. It is time to act!

Thank you for following our work and being part of this revolution. We will push until the world is a better place: we hope you will be part of this journey!

All the best,

Andrea Venzon & Colombe Cahen-Salvador
