Virtual town hall | We need more women power

A word on our digital town hall from NOW!'s co-Executive Directors Colombe!

Dear Friends,

I wanted to personally thank you for registering for our virtual town hall: Why we need more women in power, with Senator Hanson-Young.

If you missed the talk, you can view it here

"I spoke out to send the message to my daughter and her peers that every woman has the right to be respected in the workplace. Politics is still blocky, we only going to change this if more women get involved” said Senator Hanson-Young.

During this talk, we discussed the barriers to entering and working in politics for women, and why it is absolutely key to ensure parity all over the world. "Women really do bring an element to decision-making: they listen to experts. In this crisis, we have amazing women leading the struggle across the political spectrum, such as Jacinda Ardern or Angela Merkel."

Who better to discuss this with than Senator Hanson-Young, a powerful advocate for women’s rights and women’s position in Australian politics: from bringing her daughter into the Senate during a session (it wasn’t accepted by then... I know..) to starting - and winning - a defamation suit against a sexist former senator, she has made history!

I like to make sure that we translate discussions and good thoughts into action. After spending an hour discussing the importance of having more women in power, I am thus asking you to spend a few seconds to sign our petition and spread the word to achieve just that: click here.

I am looking forward to continuing this adventure with you all.

Best,

Colombe
