Green December - recap week 3

Green December has made people do crazy things for the climate!

Our co-founder Andrea jumped in the freezing lake of Hyde Park in London to push the United Nations to act. The good news is, it prompted other members to jump for the climate, AND a person in the UN Security Council reached out to discuss the campaign!  Beyond these crazy actions, Green December has already impacted change. This week, participants took many impactful actions that involved cutting down on meat consumption, running or walking 4.8km this weekend, and naming those people that inspire us to do more for the climate.

Are you ready for …  WEEK 4? Find all the details below

SATURDAY AND SUNDAY, DECEMBER 19TH AND 20TH: RUN, WALK, RIDE OR ROLL 4.8KM

There are very large inequalities in per capita emissions across the world, but the global average is around 4.8 tonnes per person. So this Saturday and Sunday, take the first step and run, walk, ride or roll 4.8KM!

MONDAY, DECEMBER 21ST: IT’S MEATLESS MONDAY

Today is our third Meatless Monday! Meat consumption has a very negative impact on the planet. Stopping it, or even reducing it, can really change this. On this Monday, have meatless meals and share your pictures, videos or recipes of these with us!

TUESDAY, DECEMBER 22ND: LEARN HOW TO HAVE A DIFFICULT CONVERSATION ABOUT CLIMATE

Climate change can be a topic that is difficult to tackle, especially with different generations, and when there is a lot of anxiety around it. Today, join our Virtual Training with Clover Hogan to learn more about how to prepare yourself for climate conversations and how to switch from climate anxiety to powerful action!

WEDNESDAY, DECEMBER 23RD: WRAP YOUR GIFTS SUSTAINABLY

A lot of the time, paper, tape, plastic and other types of material go to waste as soon as the present is opened. Today, show us your creative and sustainable way to wrap your gifts by using reusable products and cut down on waste. Share with us your pictures and tag your friends to tell them to do the same!

THURSDAY, DECEMBER 24TH: GET 10 PEOPLE TO ACT FOR THE CLIMATE

We have less than a week left before #GreenDecember is over and before 2020 comes to an end. This year has not been successful for the climate, but it's not too late! Get 10 people to act for the climate by joining Green December before 2020 is over! Together, united, we cannot be defeated.

FRIDAY, DECEMBER 25TH: MAKE A PLEDGE FOR THE CLIMATE

These holidays reunions are a good time to make strong pledges for the climate and for the future. Together with your families, friends, and anyone else, make a pledge for the climate! What are you promising to do in 2021 to help our planet? Share it with us on social media, and tag your families and friends to do the same. We can all have a positive impact on our world!

SATURDAY, DECEMBER 26TH: IT’S SAVE FOOD DAY!

Between 33-50% of all food produced globally is never eaten, and the value of this wasted food is worth over $1 trillion. Today, take part in the NOW!'s #SaveFood challenge and show us some innovative and delicious recipes that you can make with the leftovers from the holidays.

SUNDAY, DECEMBER 27TH: NAME AND SHAME THOSE NOT ENVIRONMENTALLY FRIENDLY

We all have a duty to make the environment a better place now and for the future. That’s why many industries are looking for ways to go green. However, there are still many businesses, brands and sectors that are lacking commitment towards a better and greener future. Today, name and shame those that are not environmentally friendly, and share information as to why they are not, so we can all learn from each other.

Remember: together, united, we cannot be defeated! We still have time to make a positive impact on the climate, so let’s work together!

All the best,

Laura, for NOW!
