Community Chat | Eurovision: More than just a song contest

Community chats: Every week, we host community chats for Atlas members, hosted by volunteers from the community. These chats are online discussions in which the host presents a topic of global relevance and discusses it with others. It can also be a way of raising awareness about significant events.

💬  Community Chat | Eurovision: More than just a song contest

Thursday, March 31, 2022

Eurovision, the world's largest popular music event, was established in 1956, organized by the European Broadcasting Union.  Annually, each European country selects its top song and performer to enter in the contest, and the winner is determined by a jury of music professionals and by viewers at home.
However, Eurovision is much more than a music festival. This contest is a meeting point for creating narratives from different countries and a reference space for world diplomacy.
Is it possible for television to be a vehicle for Diplomacy? Which conflicts have had the most weight in the festival? Can an award for the show have importance? Has Eurovision helped democracy or strengthened regimes?
All of these questions will be addressed in the 25-minute talk, followed by 30 minutes of debate.
Our own Omar Cueria Fernandez, Atlas Team Leader of Spain, will host this March 31st Chat and share his insight into this creative innovation in Democracy. We promise this discussion will not be boring!
Do not miss this exciting opportunity to learn and interact with fellow Atlas members!   Bring your questions and participate in the discussion.
