U.N. Security Council: declare a Global Climate Emergency

Dear U.N. Security Council Members,

Climate change is not a dramatic phenomenon that will happen in the faraway future. Climate change has already started destroying lives and our planet: more than 22.5 million people per year are forcibly displaced due to extreme weather disasters. By 2050, 140 million more will be added to that figure. Climate change is a ticking bomb that can only be disarmed if we work as One.

We marched, we struck, we screamed it on top of our lungs: our future is in jeopardy. It is not a matter of opinion, belief, religion nor education: overwhelming evidence proves that because of our actions, the world is in peril. We tried to push cities and countries to act, but the tide has not shifted. One alley remains - the global approach.

We, the people of this planet, are demanding that you recognize climate change as a threat to peace under Chapter VII of the Charter of the United Nations, and as a result, declare a Global Climate Emergency and decide on measures to counter the climate crisis.

Climate change is an existential threat to the world, peace, and security. Your role is to create the conditions to allow peace to hold and flourish, so take responsibility and act.
