ATLAS EXPOSES EU COMPLICITY IN FUNDING RUSSIA’S WAR WITH A POWERFUL PROJECTION IN MILAN
Milan, March 15, 2025 – Tonight, the global progressive movement Atlas Movement staged a bold intervention in Milan, illuminating the Palazzo delle Stelline, home to the EU’s representation in the city, with a striking light projection calling out Europe’s hypocrisy.
This is because despite its pledges to support Ukraine, the European Union continues to finance Russia’s war machine by importing record amounts of liquefied natural gas (LNG).

"Every shipment of Russian gas Europe buys is another weapon in Putin’s hands," said Colombe Cahen-Salvador, the co-founder of Atlas Movement. "The EU cannot claim to stand for peace while financing war crimes."
While European leaders condemn Russia’s invasion and impose sanctions, they have simultaneously increased LNG imports from Russia, sending billions of euros to Moscow. In 2024 alone, the EU imported EUR 7.32 billion worth of Russian LNG, money that helps fund missiles, bombings, and civilian attacks in Ukraine. Such a strident contradiction, in the context of the effort to make Europe more united - testified by today’s March for Europe taking place in Rome and several other Italian cities - it’s a stain on the European project.
Atlas Movement is demanding:
- A complete ban on Russian fossil fuel imports
- The closure of sanction loopholes that allow billions to flow to Moscow
The Milan projection is part of Atlas’ global campaign to expose governments enabling war profiteering. Those efforts include:
- Organising events such as The Freedom Marathon | GDC Europe Forum 2025, happening Saturday, March 15th in Milan to gather those wanting to build a Global Coalition for Freedom.
- Pushing for a United Nations Freedom Emergency Declaration to initiate immediate targeted actions - such as arms embargoes and targeted sanctions - against those committing or supporting grave crimes such as genocide, apartheid, crimes against humanity, war crimes, and aggression;
Atlas urges the public to stand against this double standard. "Europe must choose. stand for justice or keep funding destruction," Andrea Venzon, Co-Founder of Atlas Movement, added.
