Artificial Intelligence is already impacting every aspect of our lives. For example, from May to December 2023, 1,000% more websites have posted AI-created fake articles, influencing elections and trust. AI is not like other technologies. Its potential is infinite, both in the good and the bad. However, just like other technologies that know no borders, it must be regulated globally to be curtailed. So we look to the UN, which is hosting the Summit of the Future while this event takes place - a summit supposed to get the world ready to tackle challenges Yet, citizens are not involved in discussions and decisions on how to regulate this technology.  This must change.

As such, we are hosting a grassroots consultation to hear from the people of New York and the world what they want the United Nations to do when it comes to regulating artificial intelligence. Through a three-hour-long event, we will learn, debate, and agree on a set of recommendations democratically. But it won’t stop there, the Atlas team will advocate for it!

This conversation will enable Atlas to develop further its programme for the United Nations Secretary-General Selection Process, that our co-founder Colombe is running in. The event will start with an opening panel, and will then be focused on you and your ideas: we will work together to come up with solutions!

What is a Grassroots Consultation? It's a participative event to harness your ideas, vision, and passion to solve the most urgent threats of our times. The United Nations is too remote, isolated and out of touch with the people of our planet. Through this work, we change this, involving individuals and communities from around the planet. And we mean it: our teams of volunteers will then take those ideas, work on them and we will push them in our electoral campaign.

What will happen? We will involve you to create a genuine political revolution. We know it may be daunting to be challenged with coming up with ideas to save the world, but we have your back. We have facilitated many successful consultations before. Together, we will 1) hear from experts in the field during a panel, 2)  Identify the core sticking points/issues, 3) develop concrete solutions that we will push forward in our UN campaign.

This event is hosted in partnership with the Global Democracy Coalition to mark the International Day of Democracy 2024
